Calleguas Creek Watershed Plan
Ventura County, California

The Calleguas Creek Watershed Plan is an integrated plan covering 341 square miles, predominately in southeastern Ventura County. The watershed is adjacent to the northern perimeter of the greater Santa Monica Mountains Recreation Area and south of the Santa Susanna Mountains and includes several large creeks, which ultimately drain into Mugu Lagoon, located south of the City of Oxnard. The watershed encompasses upscale residential development in Thousand Oaks, Camarillo, Moorpark and Simi Valley, agricultural land in the Oxnard Plain and several large natural open space areas.

The Dangermond Group worked with the Habitat/Recreation Subcommittee to complete a trails inventory key components of which included:

Existing and proposed trails and bikeway
   routes.

Key linkages to existing parks and open space
within and adjacent to the watershed

Existing creek-side maintenance roads with
   review of street crossing potential

Missing linkages to key recreational and
   commuting destinations

Trails and bikeway funding opportunities

Information from County, City and agency sources, as well as personal site inventory, was integrated into a comprehensive map utilizing Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping.
