The People


PETE DANGERMOND, BSLA, FASLA | President

Pete Dangermond is president of The Dangermond Group, which he founded in 1983. He brings to his consulting practice a life-long professional career devoted to parks and recreation and allied fields of wildlife conservation and open space preservation. With over 40 years of professional experience, Pete utilizes his training as a landscape architect and his experience in government and the private sector to pursue innovative and pragmatic approaches to planning on projects.

His work is distinctive in emphasizing the development of partnerships among the right combination of public and private entities to effectuate the project, facilitating diverse interests in identifying and attaining common goals, visualizing the broadest possible range of opportunities and constraints affecting the project, and providing effective leadership and coordination among teams of specialists.

Pete serves on the board of the Save-the-Redwoods League and SC Wildlands. He has also completed a term on the National Park Service Advisory Board to which he was appointed by Interior Secretary Bruce Babbitt.


KARIN WINTERS, BA, MA, MBA | Principal

Karin Winters is Vice-President and Principal at The Dangermond Group, where she has worked since 2001. Ms. Winters has a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from the University of Rochester, a Master of Arts in Forest Ecology from Rice University, and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of California, Davis. Ms. Winters' combination of degrees and experience brings a unique perspective to environmental and planning projects. She has over ten years experience managing diverse projects with a range of budgets.

At The Dangermond Group, Ms. Winters focuses on financing projects, land acquisition, grant proposals, strategic planning, meeting facilitation, and management and administration. She prides herself on being able to bring both management and scientific tools and techniques to every project. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of
Fairytale Town, a non-profit literary themed children's park located in Sacramento.

MICHAEL DANGERMOND, BA | GIS Director

Michael Dangermond comes to The Dangermond Group with over ten years experience in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technologies. With his fine arts background and a wide range of GIS experience, Michael successfully melds an artist's sensibilities with technical skill and experience to create informative and visually distinctive maps and exhibits.

Prior to joining The Dangermond Group, Michael worked as GIS coordinator for the Association of Monterey Bay Area of Governments (AMBAG). He has also worked at US EPA Region 9, for Mapquest.com in Pennsylvania, and as a consultant for VESTRA Resources, Inc. in Redding, California. He also has extensive experience with ESRI software, and has used it in several fields, most notably the realm of cartography, in the modeling of the environment for land-use planning, and in ecosystems management.

PETE SODERBERG, BA | Senior Associate

Pete Soderberg formerly worked as an aerospace industry production planner for 17 years and was the Monterey County Parks Director for 25 years in the state of California. With this diverse background, he is highly effective in strategic planning, project management, park management consulting, and park planning.


JOANN ROSS, BSLA, DPM | Senior Associate

Combining over 35 years of training and experience in the planning and medical fields, JoAnn Ross brings a varied background to her work at The Dangermond Group. She has worked in northern and southern California providing leadership for the development of recreational, open space and landscape plans for public and private projects.

JoAnn has a special interest in working with the medical community to create programs and facilities, such as trails, parks, and gardens that utilize community assets in the prevention and treatment of chronic illnesses.


DOUG GARDNER | Associate

Doug Gardner brings a diverse background in land planning, and site design to The Dangermond Group. He is experienced in many aspects of planning and design, including the preparation of conceptual and master plans, entitlement and construction documents as well as written reports. Mr. Gardner is proficient in ArcGIS, AutoCAD, InDesign, and PhotoShop. With The Dangermond Group his emphasis has been on trails planning projects.
